Wilson Headed to State; Season Ends for Other Area Teams

VolleyballThe Wilson High School volleyball team is headed to the Class 1A Div. II State Tournament in Hays.

The Lady Dragons qualified after winning their own sub-state tournament on Saturday, Oct. 20.  After receiving a first-round bye, Wilson beat Sylvan-Lucas in two (25-20, 25-16) in the semifinals and Beloit-St. John's-Tipton in three (25-21, 11-25, 25-23) in the championship match.

The 1A Div. II State Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27 at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays.  Wilson (31-5) drew the #3 seed and will play Argonia, Leroy-Southern Coffey Co. and Weskan in pool-play Friday.  Semifinal, consolation and championship matches will be held Saturday.

Wilson was the only area team to qualify for state.

In 3A in Hoisington, Russell fell to eventual sub-state champ Hoisington in two (25-12, 28-26) in the first round. The Lady Broncos end with a 4-30 record.  

In 1A Div. I in St. John, Victoria finished runner-ups in the sub-state.  The Lady Knights received a first-round bye, beat Fairfield in two (25-15, 25-15) in the semifinals, but lost to St. John-Hudson in two (25-16, 25-12) in the championship match.  Victoria finishes 18-13.

In 1A Div. II in Wilson, Natoma beat Otis-Bison in three (23-25, 25-22, 25-15) in the first-round, but lost to Beloit-St. John's-Tipton in three in the semifinals.  The Lady Tigers end with a 20-18 record.  Sylvan-Lucas won their first-round match with Rozel-Pawnee Heights in two (26-24, 25-20), but fell to Wilson in the semifinals.  The Lady Mustangs finish 14-20.
