UPDATE: KSHSAA Passes Russell, Victoria Baseball Coop

BaseballIt is now official.  Russell and Victoria High Schools will coop in baseball for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association passed the agreement on Monday.

The coop is for two years, but either school can opt out after one year.

The idea of a cooperative agreement came up after Russell school officials feared there would not be enough boys to field a baseball team in the spring.

Before approving the coop, Victoria school board members asked parents to raise around $3,000 to pay for the busing of players to and from Russell each day for practices and games.  After about two months, enough money was raised.

The cooperative agreement is for baseball only.  The team name will remain the Russell Broncos and the team will likely compete in Class 4A.

It is also likely there now will be enough numbers to field varsity and junior varsity teams.  23 boys from the two schools combined - 13 from Russell and 10 from Victoria - say there are planning to play this spring.
