Russell Splits with TMP

Girls: Russell 53, TMP-Marian 45
Boys: Thomas More Prep 58, Russell 13
The Russell girls improved to 7-2 on the season with a 53-45 win over TMP-Marian on Friday, Jan. 11 at Amos Morris Gym in Russell.
The Lady Broncos led 24-12 at halftime and 33-18 midway through the third quarter before the Lady Monarchs rallied. TMP-Marian (1-8) cut Russell's lead to 38-30 after three quarters and then took a brief 45-43 lead with just over two minutes remaining. The Lady Broncos got a traditional three-point play from Janna Schulte to reclaim the lead and ended up finishing the game on a 10-0 run to earn their third-straight win.
Savannah Huff scored a career-high 16 points and was one of four Russell girls in double-figures. Chantal Prester matched her career-high with 13 points. Janna Schulte had 12 and Madison Beagley 10.
In the boys game, TMP scored the first 10 points and rolled to a 58-13 win.
The Monarchs (3-6) led 10-2 after one quarter, 28-6 at halftime and 51-7 after three quarters.
The 13 points is a season-low for Russell.
Keltonn Morris and Clayton Moubry each had four points for the Broncos, who are now 0-9.
The Russell boys and girls open play in the Hoisington Winter Jam on Monday. The girls play Otis-Bison at 3pm and the boys take on Victoria at 4:45pm. Catch both games on Classic Hits 95.9 and www.krsl.com.
