RHS Swept by Republic Co.

The Russell girls suffered a heartbreaking 37-36 loss to Republic Co. on Friday, Feb. 1 at Amos Morris Gym in Russell.

The Lady Broncos led 29-25 after three quarters and went up 34-26 early in the fourth quarter before the Lady Buffs rallied.  Republic Co., who's ranked 10th in Class 2A, went on an 11-2 run to finish the game and won it on Devin Nutsch's bucket with one second remaining.

Madison Beagley and Savanna Huff each scored seven points.  Alex Ptacek, Chantal Prester and Kyleigh Kasper each had six points.

Russell falls to 12-4 overall and 5-3 in the NCAA.

The Russell boys could not get their offense going and lost 70-21.

The Broncos trailed 18-8 after one quarter, 37-11 at halftime and 59-13 after three quarters.

Russell was held to just seven made field goals and committed 22 turnovers.

Keltonn Morris scored four points to lead the Broncos.  Brandon Bachar, Reshean Holloway, Taylor Pennington and Eric Rourke each had three points.

Russell falls to 1-15 overall and 1-7 in league play.

The RHS boys and girls travel to Salina on Tuesday to play Sacred Heart.  The girls game begins at 6pm with the boys to follow around 7:30pm.  Catch both games on Classic Hits 95.9 and here on krsl.com.
