RHS Ends Regular-Season with Split at Minneapolis

The Russell girls finished the regular-season on a high note with a 49-41 win at Minneapolis on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
The game featured eight ties, four lead changes and never saw either team build a lead larger than seven. Russell led 24-22 at halftime. Minneapolis came back to grab a 34-32 lead after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Broncos were able to grab control. Russell opened the quarter on an 11-2 run to go up 43-36 and held off the Lady Lions down the stretch for the eight-point victory.
Russell was just 17 of 43 from the foul line, but did hit 11 of 21 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Madison Beagley scored 11 points, all in the second half, to pace the Lady Broncos. Megan Boxberger had nine points. Chantal Prester followed with seven.
Russell improves to 15-5 and finishes league play with an 8-4 record.
In the boys game, Minneapolis used a 21-0 run over the second and third quarters to break open a seven-point game and beat Russell 71-28.
The Broncos trailed 28-21 with about two-and-a-half minutes before halftime before the Lions big run. Minneapolis led 43-21 at the break and 65-25 after three quarters.
Reshean Holloway and Keltonn Morris each scored seven points to lead Russell.
The Broncos fall to 1-19 and finish 1-11 in the NCAA.
Russell will compete in the Norton 3A Sub-State next week. Brackets will be released on Wednesday.Read More Sports
