The Russell High School baseball team was swept in their season-opening doubleheader at Hoisington on Thursday, March 28.
In the opener, the Cardinals broke a 2-2 tie with a four-run fifth inning and won 5-4. The Broncos held a 3-2 lead after the top of the fifth inning in game two. But Hoisington exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fifth and six more in the sixth to win 16-6.
Russell committed 12 errors in the doubleheader, including nine in game two.
Kaden Rohr (0-1) allowed five runs, four hits and struck out six over five innings in the opener. Brandon Bachar (0-1) suffered the loss in game two after allowing eight runs on three hits and striking out five over five innings.
Russell had 11 hits in the doubleheader. Kaden Rohr had three and Brady Dinkel two.
The Broncos were originally scheduled to play at Ellsworth on Tuesday. But the Bearcats have forfeited those games due to low numbers. So Russell is now 2-2 and will play Sacred Heart in Salina on Thursday. We'll broadcast both games on Classic Hits 95.9 and here on krsl.com.Read More Sports
