Russell, Area Teams Fall Short of State

VolleyballHigh school sub-state volleyball tournaments were held across Kansas on Saturday, Oct. 26.

No area teams qualified for the state tournaments.

Russell fell to top-seeded Larned in two (25-20, 25-16) in the semifinals of the Smoky Valley 4A Div. II Sub-State. The Lady Broncos finish the season with a 4-30 record. Larned beat Smoky Valley to qualify for state.

Natoma, Wilson and Sylvan-Lucas were apart of the Natoma 1A Div. II Sub-State. Natoma beat Wilson in two (25-16, 25-19) in the first round before falling to eventual sub-state champ Logan in three (25-14, 23-25, 25-23) in the semifinals. Sylvan-Lucas topped Palco in two (25-21, 25-20) in the first round, but lost to Northern Valley in two (25-22, 25-20) in the semifinals. Sylvan-Lucas finishes the season with a 19-14 record, while Natoma goes 21-13 and Wilson 10-22.

Victoria was the top-seed in the Lincoln 1A Div. I Sub-State. The Lady Knights received a first-round bye and then were upset by Macksville in two (25-15, 25-16) in the semifinals. Victoria finishes with a 15-12 record. LaCrosse beat Macksville to win the sub-state and qualify for state.
