Russell Splits at Beloit

Boys: Beloit 82, Russell 42
The Russell High School girls basketball team picked up a second consecutive road win Friday night with a 61-52 victory at Beloit.
The Lady Broncos and Lady Trojans were tied at 14 after one quarter, but Russell pulled ahead in the second to lead 27-23 at halftime and 45-29 after three quarters. Beloit mounted a late charge and got it to within four at one point in the final frame, but excellent shooting from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter (10 of 14) helped Russell notch the victory.
Megan Boxberger paced Russell in scoring with 19 points, Janna Schulte tallied 16, Kyleigh Kasper scored a career-high 14 points and Alex Ptacek threw in 12.
Russell improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in league play.
In the boys game, Russell was outmatched from beginning to end, as undefeated Beloit stays undefeated on the season after an 82-42 drubbing of the Broncos.
The Broncos trailed 28-9 after one, 39-20 at halftime, 75-34 at the end of three and lost by 40 points.
Russell's leading scorer was Eric Rourke with 18, nine of which came in the third quarter. Payton Vetter paced the Trojans with 27, 18 of which came in the first quarter.
The Broncos fall to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the NCAA.
