RHS Swept by Ellsworth

The Ellsworth girls used a big fourth quarter to pull away and beat Russell 43-31 on Monday, Feb. 17 at Amos Morris Gym in Russell.
The game was a defensive struggle for three quarters. The Lady Broncos led 16-13 at halftime, but were held to just two points in the third quarter and trailed 21-18 going to the fourth.
Ellsworth started the final quarter on a 20-7 run to go up by 16 and went on to their first victory in three tries against Russell this season.
Kyleigh Kasper led Russell with eight points. Halle Connally scored 19 points and Rachel Herzog 10 for Ellsworth.
Russell falls to 10-8 overall and 7-3 in the NCAA. The Lady Broncos now hold a half-game lead on Minneapolis (6-3) for first place in the league standings.
In the boys game, Ellsworth hit 9-of-11 free throws in the fourth quarter to grab a 47-40 victory.
The Broncos trailed 20-16 at halftime, 32-31 after three quarters and 40-37 late in the game. But Ellsworth's good free throw shooting prevented Russell from taking the lead in the final quarter.
The Bearcats finished the game 12-of-20 from the stripe.
Jordan Swanson hit a pair of three-pointers and scored 10 points for Russell. Austin Donovan and Eric Rourke each followed with seven points.
Matthew Keener finished with 21 points and Nick Flynn 16 for Ellsworth.
The Broncos are now 2-16 overall and 0-10 in the NCAA.
Russell travels to SE-Saline on Friday. The girls game starts at 6pm with the boys to follow around 7:45pm. Both games will be broadcast on Classic Hits 95.9 and streamed on KRSL.com.Read More Sports
