Boys: Minneapolis 55, Russell 29

The Russell Lady Broncos finished the 2013-2014 regular season in a three-way tie atop the NCAA standings as they beat previous league leader Minneapolis 45-38 on Tuesday night in Russell.

Russell led a low scoring game of 8-5 at the end of the first quarter, only led 19-17 at the half and had a 34-30 lead heading into the final period. The Lady Broncos scored 16 points in the paint in the second half and went five of seven from the foul line in the final quarter to hold on for the victory.

Megan Boxberger led Russell with 16 points, going four-for-four from the charity stripe. Janna Schulte recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kyleigh Kasper scored 10.

Russell finishes the regular season at 11-9 overall and 8-4 in the NCAA. Russell, Minneapolis and Southeast of Saline all ended with 8-4 league records, meaning the 2013-2014 NCAA championship will be shared three ways.

In the boys game, the speed of Minneapolis proved to be too much for Russell, as the Broncos lost 55-29 Tuesday night.

Russell trailed 18-7 at the end of one, 35-16 at halftime and 46-23 at the end of the third quarter. Minneapolis did not hit a field goal in the final period, but went nine of 19 from the free throw line in the fourth to hold off the Broncos.

Reshean Holloway led Russell with nine points.

Russell falls to 2-18 overall, 0-12 in the NCAA and has lost 16 in-a-row.
