Russell Opens Season in Belleville

RHS Track and FieldTemperatures in the 30s along with light rain, sleet and snow did not deter the Russell High School track and field team from getting their season started on Thursday, April 3.

Russell was one of six schools that competed in the Republic Co. Buff Invitational in Belleville.

The RHS boys finished third with 81 points, while the girls took fifth with 51 points. Beloit captured the boys and girls team titles. The boys had 207 points and the girls 142.

The Russell boys took the gold in three events. Noah Gfeller won the 400m dash. Gfeller along with Michael and Mathew Pfannenstiel and Eric Rourke won the 4x400m relay. Mi. and Ma. Pfannenstiel, Rourke and Kiefer Craig won the 4x100m relay.

Jordan Swanson took silver in the triple jump.

Bronze medal winners included Mi. Pfannenstiel in the 110m and 300m hurdles, Ma. Pfannenstiel in the 100m dash and long jump, Rourke in the 400m dash and Austin Donovan in the shot put.

Christopher Hilger placed fourth and Craig fifth in the 200m dash.

Gage Nichols took sixth in the shot put.

The RHS girls won one gold - Alaina Gfeller in the long jump.

Bronze medal winners included the 4x100m relay team of Gfeller, Lena and Sam Wedel and Sam Ptacek, the 4x400m relay team of Ptacek, Gfeller, S. Wedel and Taelyr Blehm and Hannah Hoch in the 1600m run.

Fourth place finishers included Angeleah Stierlen in the 200m dash, Ptacek in the long jump and Paxton Pospichal in the shot put.

Fifth place winners were L. Wedel in the 100m and 200m dashes and triple jump, Gfeller in the 400m dash and Hoch in the 3200m run.

S. Wedel took sixth in the 400m dash.

Russell hosts its annual invitational on Thursday, April 10. Events begin at 4pm at Shaffer Field.
