Broncos Roll by Wichita Trinity in State Opener

Russell/Victoria jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back as they cruised to an 11-2 win over Wichita Trinity in the opening round of the Class 4A Div. 2 State Baseball Tournament in Pratt on Thursday, May 29.
After posting three runs in the first inning, the Broncos pulled away with two runs in the third, three in the fourth and three more in the sixth inning. The Knights (18-5) scored single runs in the third and fifth innings, but never could get their offense going against Taylor Rome (4-2).
The junior right-hander tossed a complete-game and scattered six hits while striking out nine.
Russell/Victoria out-hit Wichita Trinity 14-6 and had at least one hit from eight of the nine batters in their order. Kaden Rohr had three hits, including a double and triple. Chase Prester also had three hits. Brady Dinkel and Rome each had two.
The Broncos improve to 15-8 and advance to Friday's semifinal where they will take on KC-Bishop Ward at 1:30pm. The Cyclones (13-10) upset second-seeded Burlington 12-2.
The first semifinal game at 11am pits Perry-Lecompton (20-3) vs. Baxter Springs (19-4). Perry-Lecompton edged Goodland 3-1 on Thursday, while Baxter Spring topped Concordia 10-3.
The third place game is at 4pm with the state championship to follow around 6:30pm.
All games are being played at Pratt Community College's Stanion Field.
