Boys: SE-Saline 51, Russell 32
Madison Beagley hit a bucket with :06 seconds remaining to give the Russell girls a thrilling 60-58 come-from-behind win at SE-Saline on Friday, Feb. 17.
The Lady Broncos trailed by as many as 11 in the first half and were down 28-23 at halftime. Russell took their first lead of the game at 31-30 early in the third quarter. SE-Saline came back to grab a 43-38 lead at the end of the third and went up by 10 twice in the fourth quarter before the Lady Broncos rallied. Kaitlynn Walker hit three 3-pointers to spark the early portion of the comeback and then Beagley finished it with a three to tie the game at 58 and the game-winning basket.
Beagley finished the night with 20 points, matching her career-high. Walker hit four of Russell's season-high five 3-pointers and had 19 points. Janna Schulte and Kelli Rourke each had nine points.
SE-Saline's Heather Cleveland had a game-high 23 points.
Russell is now 13-6 overall and third in the NCAA at 7-4.
In the boys game, Russell kept it close until SE-Saline took control with a big third quarter run and beat the Broncos 51-32.
Russell trailed 18-14 at halftime. The Trojans started the third on a 16-4 run to go up 34-18 and never let the Broncos closer than 13 the rest of the way.
Brennan Walter scored a career-high 12 points. Jordan Hecker had a pair of threes and 11 points.
Russell is now 1-18 overall and 0-11 in the NCAA.
Russell will close out the regular-season on Tuesday at home against Minneapolis.
