Victoria Swept at Central Plains

Victoria High SchoolCLAFLIN-Emily Ryan scored 45 points as the Central Plains Girls used a 34-0 run that spanned the first and second quarters to cruise to a 95-29 win over Victoria Friday night.  In the Boys game, the Oilers had four players in double figures in an 80-27 win over the Knights.

Ryan, who is only a Sophomore and who scored 51 points in a game earlier this season, scored 35 of her points in the first half alone including 16 in the first quarter and 19 in the second.  Victoria led 4-2 early in the first quarter and the game was tied 13-13 with three minutes left in the first period before the Oilers got untracked and were able to turn the game into a rout by halftime.  Joining Ryan in double figures for Central Plains were Rachel Lamatsch with 13 points and Avery Hurley with 11.  Lydia Sander was Victoria's leading scorer with 13 points including 10 of those at the free throw line out of 12 attempts.  Despite the lopsided loss Victoria scored the third most points against Central Plains so far this season topped only by Nickerson's 36 and Russell's 33.

In the Boys game, the Oilers turned several fast breaks into layups and never trailed on their way to their ninth straight win to start the sesason.  Central Plains led 26-7 after the first quarter and extended the margin to 51-15 by intermission.  Another 23-point quarter by the Oilers dictated a running clock in the fourth quarter as the Knights' modest two-game winning streak came to an end.

Alex Barton led the way for Central Plains with 21 points, Brett Liebl had 18, Alex Hickel chipped in with 13 and Devin Ryan added 11.  Tyler Knoles knocked down three three-pointers on his way to a team-high 13 points for Victoria.

The Victoria teams will join Russell at the Hoisington Winter Jam this coming week.  Both are seeded #6 in the upcoming tournament and will face #3 Ellsworth on Monday.  The Girls game tips off at 3 p.m. while the Boys will tip at 4:45.
