Summer heat can exceed 100 degrees making it difficult for anyone who works outdoors. To reduce the potential for heat-related illness, City of Russell departments will begin a summer heat schedule on June 5.

Those departments will include cemetery, electric distribution, golf, parks, street, sanitation, recycling and water distribution.

The summer heat schedule, which is 7 AM to 4 PM, will help keep employees safe and out of the hottest part of the day.

The summer heat schedule impacts all sanitation, water and electric customers serviced by the City of Russell with services beginning and ending an hour earlier than normal.

Beginning June 5, sanitation customers should have their trash containers ready for pick-up by 7 AM.

Electric and water service calls after 4 PM during the summer heat schedule are subject to an after-hours service charge.

Russell City Manager Jon Quinday said City crews do an excellent job and are always in the weather pushing through to get the job done. They understand the inconvenience this may cause some folks and they thank you for your patience and understanding in keeping crews safe.

The City of Russell will continue the heat schedule until September 4.

Don't hesitate to contact the City Manager's Office at 785-483-6311 if you have any questions.
