On Saturday at approximately 2:49 AM, City of Russell Fire units were paged for a camper on fire in the 300 Block of West 10th Street in Russell.

According to a press release from Fire Chief Dylan Riedel, fire units arriving on the scene observed a fully engulfed camper and fire spreading from the camper to the residence at 345 West 10th.

Fire crews quickly knocked down the camper fire, but the fire had spread into the attic, main floor and basement of the vacant house. Crews were able to force entry into the front of the residence and extinguish the fires on all three levels. The fire was ruled under control at 5:19 AM with crews remaining on scene until 6:21 AM doing mop up and clean up.

The RV was unoccupied at the time and the residence has been vacant for several years. Neighbors advised that individuals were doing work on the RV parked next to the house. It is unknown if the work on the RV caused the fire to the RV and residence. The fire is being ruled undetermined.

The City of Russell Fire Department would like to thank the Russell Police Department, Russell County EMS, Russell County Sheriff's Office, Russell Electric Department and Russell County 911 for assisting with the call.
