Injury Accident Near Russell Caused When One Driver Fell Asleep
A Saturday evening injury accident near Russell was caused when one driver fell asleep and crossed the center line.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at 6:56 PM on February 17, a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by 25-year-old Phillip Otten of Luray was southbound on US Highway 281 approximately one mile south of Russell.
A 2015 Toyota 4-Runner driven by 47-year-old Melody Johnston of Great Bend was northbound on US Highway 281.
The KHP said Otten fell asleep, crossed the center line and collided with the Toyota.
Otten suffered possible injuries and complained of pain but was not transported to the hospital.
Johnston was taken to Russell Regional Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Both drivers were buckled up at the time of the crash.
