Kansas Society of Washington, D.C. Honors 2024 Kansan of the Year Mitch Holthus
Mitch Holthus, the Voice of the Kansas City Chiefs, was honored as the 2024 Kansan of the Year at the Kansas Society of Washington, D.C.'s annual banquet.
The Kansas Society honored Holthus for his dedication to the Kansas City Chiefs and its fans, his passion for the sunflower state and his deep admiration for Kansans. The dinner, attended by the Kansas Congressional Delegation, included remarks from Senator Jerry Moran, Senator Roger Marshall, Representative Ron Estes, Representative Jake LaTurner and Representative Sharice Davids.
Holthus, his wife Tami and his father ElDean attended the dinner in Washington, D.C. on July 9.
"Mitch is a great ambassador to the state of Kansas, and absolutely deserving of this award," the Kansas Society Board said. "It was clear to every person at the dinner that Mitch loves Kansas and Kansas loves him. Mitch has spent this life and career celebrating the successes of others and we were delighted to celebrate Mitch and his family by naming him Kansan of the Year."
A native of Smith Center and graduate of Kansas State University, Holthus was selected by the Kansas Society of Washington, D.C. Board for being an exemplary ambassador for the state. Holthus, the Voice of the Kansas City Chiefs, is the longest tenured and most decorated play-by-play voice in franchise history, on the call for Chiefs victories in Super Bowl LIV, Super Bowl LVII and Super Bowl LVIII. Holthus is a member of the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Kansas State University Athletics Hall of Fame and is a five-time Emmy Award winner.
The Kansas Society of Washington, D.C. is a non-profit organization classified as a 501(c)(4) member of the National Conference of State Societies. The Kansas State Society has been honoring an individual as Kansan of the Year annually since 1963.
