A Memorial Day Thank You

Russell County Veterans Memorial
Russell County Veterans Memorial

On behalf of everyone at KRSL / KZRS Russell Radio and White Communications, thank you to all the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy today.

Enjoy this Memorial Day and please keep in mind what today is all about.

Patriotism, Opportunity, Duty, Legacy…

Every man and woman who puts on the Armed Forces uniform does so for many different reasons. Regardless of their motivation, they served with an unspoken understanding that service means sacrifice, even if that sacrifice is one's own life. Throughout the history of our great Nation, we lost an unfathomable number of lives defending our rights and our freedom and helping protect the repressed and marginalized.

The death of a soldier, airman, marine, sailor and coastguardsman ripples through our community as those lost are a father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, friend or neighbor. These men and women are a part of our collective identity of Russell. The stories tell of sacrifices, pride and memories of loved ones at observances and through inscriptions on memorials and plaques dedicated to the legacy of their generation. An often-forgotten ritual is the National Moment of Remembrance, which encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 PM on Memorial Day for one minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the Nation. Please take a minute on Memorial Day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who are still prisoners of war or missing in action – we will never forget.
