RHS Class of 1972 Graduates Will Be Inducted Into McPherson HS Wall of Fame

Two Russell High School Class of 1972 graduates will be inducted into the McPherson High School Wall of Fame.

McPherson High School Activities Director Shane Backhus announced that during halftime of a basketball game scheduled for Friday, December 18 they will be inducting 10 individuals and one team into the McPherson High School Wall of Fame.

The honorees will include former Bullpup Head Baseball Coach and longtime Assistant Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball Coach Gordon Peck and former Bullpup Head Wrestling Coach Rich Settle.

According to Mid Kansas Online, Peck was the MHS Head Baseball Coach from 1987-2000 and from 2004-2010, had a 242-206 record with Six State Tournament Appearances, was 5x AVL/AVCTL Coach of the Year, was a Kansas Baseball Coaches Association State Representative, was MHS Assistant Varsity/JV Basketball Coach from 1985-2015, had a 617-94 varsity record, had a 424-75 JV record (four undefeated seasons), had 22 State Tournament Appearances, 10 State Championships, 5x State Runner-up, 22 AVL/AVCTL League Championships, 16 McPherson Invitational Championships, was MHS Assistant Football Coach (seven years), had two Playoff Appearances and one Final Four.

According to Mid Kansas Online, Settle was the MHS Wrestling Coach from 1977-1980 and from 1986-2011, had a 165-102 Career Dual Record, had Five Class 5A State Tournament Top Four Teams, 1998 - 2nd Place, 1990 and 2001 - 3rd Place, 1997 and 1999 - 4th Place, had 15 Class 5A Individual State Champions, 74 Class 5A Individual State Medalists, was 2x AVL Coach of the Year, was KWCA Class 5A Coach of the Year - 1990 and won the KSHSAA State Sportsmanship Award - 1998.
