Road Work Updates, Zoning Changes Highlight Monday's Russell County Commissioner Meeting

A light agenda awaited for the Russell County Commissioners on Monday as they met for just over an hour at the courthouse in Russell.

Commissioners opened the meeting by appointing Robert "Casey" Dickinson as Fairfield Township Trustee and Shawn Bird as Russell Township Trustee to fill vacant seats.

County Administrator Stephanie Grisham updated commissioners on work being done to begin live streaming commissioner meetings. She also said work is underway to renew the 911 Communications Center contract with the City of Russell.

Public Works Director Justin Mermis told commissioners work continues on the overlay project of Highway 40 near Gorham. Recent rain has slowed the project. Mermis also said there is a sink hole on Highway 40 west of Dorrance that is about three foot deep. Work is underway to repair it. Mermis also mentioned work is being done on the low water crossing on 205th Street southwest of Wilson.

Ryan Lichter, Assistant Director with 20th Judicial District Juvenile Services, gave an overview of services offered to commissioners and mentioned work is being done to apply for a state block grant.

Commissioners wrapped up the meeting by approving several zoning changes in the county and passed a temporary conditional use permit for Detonation Alley Retail Fireworks in Lucas from June 20 through July 7.

The next meeting of the Russell County Commissioners is on Monday, June 15 at 9 AM at the courthouse in Russell.
