Russell County Landfill to be Open One Saturday Per Month

Russell County Commissioners met Tuesday at the Russell County Courthouse and approved a schedule change at the landfill.

Starting immediately, the Russell County landfill will be open the first Saturday of each month from 9 AM to 2:30 PM and closed the remaining Saturdays. The landfill will continue to operate its normal hours Monday through Friday. According to commissioners, the county loses money every Saturday and they are searching for areas to save on the budget, leading to this decision.

Haselhorst says they are also keeping a close eye on legislation in Topeka.

Also Tuesday, Haselhorst and commissioners continued discussions about the Paradise blacktop road.

Commissioners also approved a bid with Comfort Pro for $30,065 to replace two furnaces at the Russell County Sheriff's Office and agreed to cereal malt beverage applications for Lake Wilson Marina.
