Russell County Sheriff's Office Warns Citizens About Scam Calls
The Russell County Sheriff's Office has received reports from several citizens reporting scam calls. In these calls, the caller has pretended to be an employee of the Russell County Sheriff's Office.
According to a press release from Russell County Sheriff Andrew Van Der Wege, in some instances, the scammers have spoofed phone numbers claiming to be from the Russell County Sheriff's Office. Please do not fall victim to these scams.
The Russell County Sheriff's Office will never contact individuals via phone regarding arrests, warrants and jury duty and requesting money or additional personal information. The Russell County Sheriff's Office will also never ask for Venmo, cash app, gift cards or other financial information from you.
The employees of the Russell County Sheriff's Office take pride in knowing and working closely with the citizens of Russell County. They feel the relationship they share with the Russell County community reflects the ability to know when they speak with one another.
If you receive a call similar to this, do not give out personal information or provide money. If you are concerned about the legitimacy of a call you receive, you can always contact the Sheriff's Office at 785-483-2151.
