Russell Memorial Day Service: A Day of Remembering and Hope
Russell VFW Post 6240 and Russell American Legion Post 99 hosted a Memorial Day Service on Monday morning at the Russell City Cemetery.
109th Representative and rural Russell County resident Troy Waymaster gave the keynote address to a crowd of around 100 and spoke about the importance of Memorial Day, remembering our veterans and those that have died in the line of duty and the hope of making tomorrow a better day.
Russell VFW Post Commander Lance Waymaster served as emcee. John Dumler from St. John Lutheran Church in Russell gave the invocation and benediction. Mike Waymaster recited the Gettysburg Address. Rachel Sipe sang the National Anthem. Joey and Jamie Hurla gave the Pledge of Allegiance. Following taps and a 21 rifle salute, a flyover was done by Tony Mahoney in his plane.
Members of the Russell VFW and Russell American Legion held similar services on Monday morning in Gorham and Bunker Hill.
