Significant Rainfall Headed for Kansas
Hurricane Polo is making its way on land in Mexico and soon the remnants of the storm will have a significant impact on Kansas weather.
According to the National Weather Service, the remnants will merge with an upper level storm system approaching from the west. Heavy rainfall is likely across central and western Kansas from late Tuesday into Thursday. The main risk with the storms will be very high rainfall rates and associated flooding.
A Flood Watch is in effect for much of western and north-central Kansas, including Russell, Ellis, Lincoln, Osborne, Rooks and Rush from late Tuesday into Thursday.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
Multiple rounds of shower and thunderstorm activity are expected across portions of central Kansas from late Tuesday afternoon through Thursday. Widespread rainfall amounts between 1 and 3 inches are expected with locally higher amounts possible.
