Traffic Stop Near Great Bend Results in Meth Arrest

On June 1 just before 2 AM, a Barton County Sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle on US Highway 281 near milepost 102 just south of the city of Great Bend for an equipment violation.

According to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir, during the course of the traffic stop deputies became suspicious of potential drug activity. Sheriff's Office K9 Maxx was deployed. The dog alerted to the presence of controlled substances.

Further investigation revealed methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

A 20-year-old Larned man identified as Nathan Cartlich was arrested at the scene. Cartlich was transported to the Barton County Jail and booked on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Cartlich is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
