Two Injured in Crash on I-70 Near Sylvan Grove Exit

A man and woman, both from Oakley, were injured in a single vehicle crash along Interstate 70 near the Sylvan Grove exit in Ellsworth County on Friday.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2020 Ford Explorer was eastbound and came upon a slick spot while snow was blowing across the highway. The SUV entered the median and struck a drain grate, went airborne and rolled an unknown amount of times before coming to rest on its top in the median.

The driver, 54-year-old Michael L. Berkgren, and passenger, 39-year-old Chelsey Schiltz, were both taken to the hospital in Hays. Berkgren was not wearing a seatbelt. Schiltz was wearing a seatbelt, according to KHP.

The rollover happened just before 11 AM.
