Victoria Teacher Named a Kansas Horizon Award Winner

Monday started off as any other day, but quickly changed, in a very good way, for Victoria 6th Grade Teacher Dalton Kraus.
During morning announcements, Dr. Randy Watson, Commissioner of the Kansas State Department of Education, joined in via an online ZOOM link to say Kraus had been selected as a Horizon Award winner.
With this award, Kraus is now a member of the Kansas Exemplary Educator’s Network (KEEN). He will be invited to the KEEN Conference and an honorary banquet in February.
The Kansas Horizon Award program, sponsored by KSDE, allows all school districts in the state to nominate one elementary and one secondary teacher for the award. To be eligible for the award, teachers must have successfully completed their first year of teaching and have performed in such a way as to distinguish themselves as outstanding.
According to USD 432, Dr. Watson explained the high honor of the award stating “we have thousands of outstanding teachers in their second year. Only 32 across the state are selected.”
Kraus, who is also the middle school head boys basketball coach, was joined by his wife, parents and students and staff when he learned of the award from Dr. Watson on Monday morning.
