Central Plains' Magical Postseason Ends with Loss at State
The Central Plains High School football team met Hoxie in Greensburg on Saturday evening, November 30 in the 2024 8-Man Division I State Championship and lost 46-0.
Hoxie finished the season with an overall record of 13-0 and the Oilers finished 10-3.
Indian senior fullback Easton Nickelson scored a 57-yard touchdown run and Hoxie senior quarterback Duncan Bell passed nine yards for a touchdown to senior end Samuel Watkins in the first quarter and the Indians led 16-0 after one period.
Hoxie's Bell tossed three TD passes in the second stanza - a 41-yard pass to senior end Trent Fenner, a 38-yard pass to Fenner and a 41-yarder to senior end Braxton Munk - and the Indians led 38-0 at halftime.
The game was called due to the mercy rule at the 10:08 mark in the third frame following a 28-yard touchdown pass from Bell to Watkins and a successful two-point conversion. The final score was Hoxie 46-0.
The Indians outgained Central Plains 334 total yards to just 81. The Oilers finished with 67 yards on the ground and 14 yards through the air, compared to 98 yards rushing and 236 yards passing for Hoxie.
Central Plains senior tailback Joel Schreiber rushed 11 times for 31 yards.
