Goodland Claims K-18 State Baseball Championship

Goodland celebrated their 2026 K-18 State Baseball Championship after an 8-4 victory over Osborne in the title game of the 75th K-18 State Baseball Tournament on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Ziegler Field in Lucas. (Photo courtesy of Rita Sharp, Lucas-Sylvan News).

Goodland won the 75th annual K-18 State Baseball Tournament in Lucas on Wednesday evening.

Goodland topped Osborne 8-4 in the championship game.

Earlier in the day, Ellis beat Waterville 6-3 in the third place contest.

Waterville was presented with the Sportsmanship Trophy.

Lucas celebrated the 75th edition of the state tournament by renaming the field to Ziegler Field in honor of Al Ziegler who founded the K-18 baseball league. Miss Kansas Sophie Lewis was on hand to present the trophies. And Mitch Holthus, the radio voice of the Kansas City Chiefs and part of Smith Center's 1972 K-18 State Championship Team, recorded a message and it was played back between games for the teams and fans on Wednesday.
