GOW: Ellinwood Stops Stanton County 24-6
Drew Heinz passed for a touchdown and ran for another and Ellinwood's defense held Stanton County to 131 total yards in a 24-6 victory on Friday, September 15 at the Ellinwood High School Field.
The Eagles struck first on a 16-yard touchdown run by Logan Panning to go up 8-0 early in the first quarter. Ellinwood extended the lead to 16-0 at halftime following a 39-yard TD pass from Heinz to Cooper Hosman as the first half clock expired.
Following a scoreless third quarter, the Eagles found the end zone again, this time on a one-yard run by Heinz with 8:11 to go.
Stanton County avoided the shutout with 4:21 remaining when Alvin Solis found Jhovanni Guillen on a 15-yard scoring pass.
Heinz completed 6 of 9 passes for 111 yards and ran for another 15. Bryan Jaske rushed for a game-high 96 yards. Rylan Wirtz had 52 yards on the ground and Panning followed with 32. Four Eagles had receptions, including two by Wirtz.
Ellinwood ended the game with 306 total yards - 195 on the ground and 111 through the air. The Eagles defense forced Stanton County into three turnovers.
Ellinwood improves to 3-0 for the first time since 1986. Stanton County falls to 1-2.
Ellinwood begins district play on Friday, September 22 at home against Hutch Trinity.
