Game 1: Goodland 2, Russell-Victoria 0
Game 2: Goodland 5, Russell-Victoria 1

The Russell-Victoria Lady Bronco Softball team took on Goodland on Thursday afternoon at Memorial Park. Despite solid pitching and many sparkling defensive plays, the Cowgirls found just enough offense to sweep the Lady Broncos by scores of 2-0 and 5-1.

The doubleheader was moved up two hours to 2 p.m. from its scheduled 4 p.m. start due to forecasted inclement weather.  While rain showers persisted during the first game, play was never stopped and most of the second game was played in drier conditions under partial sunshine.

Goodland plated their two runs in the opener on a sacrifice fly by Ally Cure and an RBI single by Natalie Cure.  Ally Cure picked up the complete game win, scattering seven hits and striking out four.  Gracelynn Dinkel took the loss for Russell-Victoria despite limiting the Cowgirls to eight hits and notching five strikeouts.

The Cowgirls scored all of their runs in the nightcap during the first two innings on four RBI singles and a Lady Bronco error.  The Lady Broncos scored their lone run of the day in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jasmine Jefferson led off with a single and then stole second.  Jefferson came around to score when Daryss Barrera hit into a fielders choice.  Kadence Smith got the win for Goodland (10-8), limiting Russell-Victoria to three hits and registering four strikeouts.  Dinkel was again tagged with the loss, working four innings before Saige Moos pitched the last three frames.

Russell-Victoria (4-18) will next play on Tuesday, May 5 when they travel to Haven for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.  The Lady Broncos will then close the regular season at Memorial Park on Thursday, May 7 when they host Sacred Heart for another pair of games.
