Nichol, Peerman and Whitmer Take Gold at Russell Relays

Russell High School hosted its annual Russell Relays on Friday, May 7 at the Shaffer Sports Complex.

The Hoisington boys and girls won the team titles. The Hoisington boys finished with 160 points, 65 ahead of second-place TMP-Marian. The Hoisington girls had 170 points and beat second-place TMP-Marian by 58 points. The Russell girls took sixth with 28 points and the boys were seventh with 38 points.

Renee Nichol led the RHS girls, winning the long jump, placing second in the triple jump and finishing fourth in the 100 M dash. Camille Dortland took fifth in both the 800 and 1600 M runs. Rylan Reeve placed sixth in both the 100 M hurdles and 300 M hurdles.

On the boys side, Russell's Jesse Whitmer won the 100 M dash. Jace Peerman took gold in the high jump. Brayden Strobel was second in the high jump and fifth in the pole vault. Jacob Ney placed second in the 400 M run.

Russell competes in the Mid-Continent League meet in Hill City on Thursday, May 13. Events are scheduled to begin at 3 PM.
