Five members of the Russell High School track and field team have qualified for the state track and field meet in Wichita.

Walker Middleton, Jacob Ney, Macy Patterson, Jace Peerman and Brayden Strobel all punched their tickets after finishing in the top four of their events at the Class 3A Regional Meet in Garden City on Friday, May 19.

Peerman won the high jump with a leap of 6'4". Brayden Strobel finished second in the high jump with a leap of 6'2" and also took second in the long jump with a jump of 21' 4 1/2". Jacob Ney took fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.16. Macy Patterson placed fourth in the discuss with a throw of 102'. The boys 4x100 relay team of Strobel, Middleton, Ney and Peerman placed third with a time of 44.13.

The RHS boys placed eighth out of 16 schools with 38 points, while the Russell girls were 13th with six points. Holcomb captured the boys regional title with 95 points. Phillipsburg edged Norton 76-72 for the girls team title.

The State Track and Field Meet will be held Friday and Saturday, May 26-27 at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University. Classes 1A, 2A and 3A take the morning session on Friday with 4A, 5A and 6A going in the afternoon. Events continue throughout the day on Saturday.
