Russell Crowned K-18 State Champs

Russell capped off their first season of K-18 fastpitch softball by winning the state championship on Saturday, July 17 in Lucas.

After beating Rooks County 5-0 on Friday in the first round, Russell took down last year's state champ Norton 3-2 in the semifinals on Saturday morning.

In the championship game on Saturday afternoon, Russell dominated Ellis from start to finish and won 14-0.

Kendra Bay went 3-0, tossed two complete game shutouts and allowed just two runs in the tournament.

At the plate, Russell's offense was equally impressive as they outscored their three opponents 22-2.

Russell finishes the 2021 summer with a 15-3-1 record. In addition to winning the state championship on Saturday, Russell was also given the K-18 Sportsmanship Award.

Russell's K-18 softball team is one of more than 30 programs offered by the Russell Recreation Commission. The team is coached by Brandi Powers and Tony Bay. Team members include Kendra Bay, Sydney Krause, Brooklyn Kuhn, Hope Lumpkins, Marissa Myers, Tionna Napue, Kayla Noller, Hayley Powers, Taylor Powers and Jaylyn Walton.
