Russell K-18 Baseball Wins Slugfest in Season Opener

The Russell K-18 Baseball team, coming off a third place finish at the State Tournament in 2022, opened their 2023 slate on Monday evening at the Shaffer Sports Complex.

Russell, coached by Jon Ross, managed to outlast Beloit Blue by a score of 13-8.

Russell benefitted from a balanced offensive attack which included three hits apiece by Sam Thielen, Pierce Schoenberger, Will Schmeidler and Kyle Huser.  Schmeidler had two doubles and Huser contributed a triple.

Jaxon Ross was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts while giving up just one earned run.

Russell is back in action on Thursday, June 1 with a road contest at Smith Center Grey.  The K-18 squad is back at the Shaffer Complex on Monday, June 5 to face Lucas.  Both contests begin at 6:30 p.m.
