Russell Youth Trap Team Places 3rd at State Competition

The Russell Youth Trap team capped off another impressive season recently with a third place finish at the Kansas State High School Clay Target League State Tournament held on June 20 and 21 in Wichita.

One of the team's coaches, Mike McAdoo recapped the season results on a recent edition of KRSL's "People in the News" program.

McAdoo also talked about the dramatic improvement shown by several members of the team from the 2025 season to the 2026 season.

Russell finished first in its conference before turning in the third place state finish and missed winning the state title by a mere three points.  

Individual highlights for the trap shooters included Taylor Cook taking 2nd place in the Girls Varsity competition at state.  Ty Cook, Hunter Duryee and Wes Johnson finished in the top 100 statewide while Bo Decker won the Bill Morris Trophy for attaining the highest score with a 99/100.  Taylor Cook also finished first in the Varsity Girls division for the spring season.
