Russell's Birky Places Second in Ellsworth
Russell's Cole Birky continued his impressive spring on Thursday, May 6, finishing second at the Ellsworth Invitational at the Ellsworth Golf Course.
The RHS senior fired an 83 in the 18 hole tournament and ended up two strokes back of Larned's Easton Fitzpatrick, who won the individual title with an 81.
Birky has placed ninth or better in all seven tournaments this spring, including three second-place finishes.
Also, Russell fielded a five-man squad for just the second time this spring. Herbie Shumaker shot a 124, James Pummell a 135, Graham Dreiling a 142 and Anthony Bonaccorso a 151.
Ellsworth won the team title on their home course with a 366. Hoisington was second and Larned third.
Russell plays in the Mid-Continent League Tournament in Hays on Thursday, May 13.
