Based on the number of individual and team state championships over the years, the Mid-Continent League can easily boast itself as one of, if not, the best wrestling league in all of Kansas. So to win an MCL league title is something pretty special. Three Russell Lady Bronco wrestlers did just that on Friday, January 31 at the MCL League Invitational at Amos Morris Gym in Russell.

Averie Counts went 3-0 and captured the 130 pound division. Kinsey Zorn went 3-0 and won the 135 pound division. Jaden Ney went 3-0 and took the 145 pound division, the third league title in her amazing high school career.

Counts, ranked #2 in Class 3-2-1A at 130, improves to 34-4. Zorn, ranked #1 at 135, is now 27-4. Ney, #1 at 145, is 28-1 this winter.

Also for the Russell girls, Stephanie King went 1-2 and was third at 100, Madison Raybern went 2-1 and finished third at 115, Cambrea Solze went 3-1 and placed third at 140, Leila Stone went 1-2 and was fourth at 120, Chaysie Bachman went 2-2 and took fourth at 125, and Myra Trevino went 0-2 at 115.

Russell finished second in the team standings with 131.5 points. Norton took home the team title with 143 points. Oakley was third with 127.5.
