Geriun Boor rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns and Dayton Couse tallied 95 yards and three scores while the Sylvan-Lucas defense shut down Wilson's dangerous running attack as the Mustangs cruised to a 36-6 victory over the Dragons in 8-Man Division ll action Friday evening at Lang Memorial Field.

The game was scoreless after a very quick first quarter that saw Wilson dominate in time of possession.  However, the Dragons were stopped on downs three times in Sylvan-Lucas territory by a stingy Mustang defense that focused on star Fullback Cooper Weinhold whose longest gain of the night was just eight yards.

The Mustangs broke on top with 8:22 left in the second quarter when Couse rumbled 44 yards for his first touchdown and Sylvan-Lucas led 8-0 after the two-point conversion.  On the next possession, Couse scored again from 20 yards out, but the conversion failed this time, leaving the score at 14-0.

Sylvan-Lucas then scored two more touchdowns 59 seconds apart on Boor's 17-yard run and then Couse found the end zone again from two yards away on a short drive set up by a muffed kickoff by the Dragons.  The Mustangs went one of two on conversions and led 28-0 at intermission.

Boor scored his second touchdown of the game on a 47-yard run early in the third quarter and the successful conversion widened the Mustang lead to 36-0.  After Camryn Eberhart intercepted a Lane Homewood pass, the Dragons began their lone scoring drive on their own two-yard line.  After a roughing the passer penalty against Sylvan-Lucas, the Dragons got a first down.  Three plays later on a fourth and seven play from from the 20-yard line, Eberhart found James Huck for a first down.  Huck then broke a tackle and raced up the sideline for a 60-yard touchdown.  The conversion was no good and the Sylvan-Lucas lead stood at 36-6.  That was final score as neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

Weinhold, who rushed for 298 yards and seven touchdowns earlier this season against Chase and who had posted back to back 100-yard plus outings coming into the game was held to just 36 yards on 12 carries.  The Mustangs outgained the Dragons on the ground 393-26 as they won their fifth straight game in the series.  Wilson (4-3, 3-2), had hoped history would be on their side as in the previous two years that October 16 had fallen on a Friday, the Dragons prevailed.  That included their most recent home victory over Sylvan-Lucas in 2009 and their last overall win against the Mustangs in 2015 at Weatherman Field.

Weinhold, Eberhart and five other seniors played their final home games for Wilson on Friday.

Sylvan-Lucas (5-2, 3-2) closes out the regular season next Friday at home against Tescott while Wilson will travel to Claflin to take on Central Plains which defeated Hutchinson Central Christian 54-0 in a non-district game on Friday night.
