The Russell City Council met Tuesday and voted to replace the slides and other features at the Russell Municipal Swimming Pool.

Upon completion of the 2021 pool season, an end of year review and inspection was completed of the municipal pool facility according to City staff. This inspection provided evidence that the aquatic equipment is rapidly deteriorating.

A request for proposals was issued for removal and replacement of the two existing aquatic slides and platform, the existing fiberglass toddler slide, the two existing spray features, and all the existing skimmer grates that surround the swimming pool. All existing features are original to the facility, which was constructed in 1999.

Also Tuesday, the Council discussed applying for a Community Development Block Grant to mill and overlay West Wichita Avenue.

The Council also discussed no parking zones in the 500 and 600 blocks of State Street and voted to approve City staff recommendation and direct the no parking zone on the north side of State Street along the Russell High School senior or east parking lot to be removed.
