The Russell County 4-H Development Fund is a non-profit organization whose mission is to secure funds from private and public sources in order to support 4-H programs, members and alumni.

On April 20, the Russell County 4-H Development Fund Board met and reviewed nine scholarship applications from Russell County 4-H members and 4-H alumni currently attending post-secondary classes. Each applicant submitted their application with an essay, 4-H permanent record, cumulative 4-H accomplishments, work experience, public service, extra-curricular activities, school transcript and letters of recommendation from teachers, peers and 4-H leaders. The Board decided to award four graduating high school seniors each a $1,000 scholarship. Four alumni applicants were each awarded a $250 scholarship for the upcoming school year and one current member ambassador was awarded a $60 scholarship.

Russell High School graduating senior recipient Rylan Reeves (pictured below) plans to attend Fort Hays State University and study agribusiness. RHS graduate Abigail Myers (pictured below) plans to attend Fort Hays State University majoring in elementary education. Sylvan-Lucas Unified High School graduate Zachary Rose (pictured below) plans to attend North Central Kansas Technical College in the welding program. And RHS graduate Emerson Nichols (pictured below) will be attending Kansas State University studying nutritional science and pre-med.

Russell County 4-H alumni recipient Kalli Pfeifer attends Fort Hays State University in the business administration and marketing program. 4-H alum McQuayla Purscell is attending Sterling College studying criminal justice and pre-law. Alumni recipient Autumn Princ attends Wichita State University majoring in secondary education mathematics. And 4-H alum Grace Lumpkins is in the bachelor of business administration and marketing program at Fort Hays State University.

An additional scholarship of $60 was awarded to current Russell County 4-H member Hope Lumpkins to help defer the costs of ambassador training.

These very deserving recipients have worked hard in their 4-H, scholastic and personal endeavors, and are continuing their education to make the best better. The Board congratulates them on their achievements and is proud to support them in their journey.

Without the generosity of donors, these scholarships, other scholarships awarded during the year and the ability to pay all Russell County 4-H members' annual enrollment fees, would not be possible. They are grateful to all who have helped support 4-H youth. If you are interested in helping 4-H members and alumni pursue educational opportunities and more, please consider donating. Including the Russell County 4-H Development Fund in your estate and memorial planning is a great way to help secure the future of Russell County 4-H. Tax deductible contributions are truly appreciated and can be mailed to Russell County 4-H Development Fund, 309 South Fossil, Russell, KS 67665 or submitted online through Venmo.
