Russell County Sheriff Fred Whitman Announces Retirement

The Russell County Commissioners met Monday morning and accepted the retirement of Russell County Sheriff Fred Whitman effective December 15 of this year.

Whitman has served as Russell County Sheriff since 2015 and has served in the Sheriff's Office since 1996.

Undersheriff Andy VanDerWege is expected to replace Whitman in December as Sheriff, but that is not yet official.

Also Monday, the Commissioners awarded a bid to Pfeifer Recycling of Stockton for the metal pile at the Russell County Landfill and accepted a grant for a bridge.
