CLAFLIN-Chase Schumacher and Matthew Pfeifer each scored two touchdowns and the Victoria defense held Central Plains to 60 yards of total offense as the Knights opened District play with a 48-0 victory over the Oilers Friday evening at Oiler Stadium.

Third-ranked Victoria won the opening coin toss and marched 50 yards in eight plays with Pfeifer scoring on an 11-yard run and the two-point conversion was good to give the Knights an 8-0 lead with 7:40 remaining in the opening period.  Victoria expanded the lead to 14-0 when Schumacher rumbled in from 27 yards out but the two-point play failed.

The Knights got the ball right back after Central Plains muffed the ensuing kickoff and two plays later, Schumacher found the end zone again and this time the conversion was good to make the score 22-0.  The lead grew to 24-0 at the end of the quarter when Oiler Quarterback Brodie Crites was sacked in the end zone for a safety.

Victoria wasted no time scoring again as the second quarter started when Pfeifer scored from eight yards out and the two-point conversion increased the Victoria margin to 32-0.  Wyatt Scherrer added a three-yard touchdown run followed by a two-point tally for a 40-0 advantage and then the Knights closed out the scoring on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Landon Schmidtberger to Ethan VonLintel on a fourth down play as VonLintel made the catch in between two Oiler defenders.

Central Plains which was celebrating Homecoming on Friday had a chance to extend the game beyond halftime when they drove to the Victoria 23-yard line but they were unable to make a first down and Victoria (3-1, 1-0) took over and ran out the clock to secure their third straight win after a season-opening loss at #2-ranked Kinsley.

Pfeifer led the Victoria attack with nine carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns while Schumacher registered eight carries for 65 yards and two scores.  Schmidtberger was a perfect three for three passing for 46 yards and one touchdown.

Victoria is off next week before returning to action on October 6 with a home game against Wallace County.  Central Plains (3-1, 0-1) will hit the road for another challenging District showdown at Sylvan-Lucas which was a 46-0 winner over Otis-Bison on Friday night.
