Area Roundup: Four Qualify for State Track

Four area athletes have qualified in five events for the Kansas High School State Track and Field Meet in Wichita.

Natoma, Sylvan-Lucas, Victoria and Wilson all competed in the Winona Triplains Class 1A Regional in Colby on Friday, May 20. The top four in each event punched their ticket to state.

Victoria led the list of area qualifiers. Macy Hammerschmidt won the regional title in the long jump and took second in the 100 M dash. Tanis Brungardt placed second in the shot put. Callie Lane finished fourth in the 300 M hurdles.

Dayton Couse from Sylvan-Lucas tied for third in the shot put.

No athletes qualified for state from Natoma or Wilson.

The Victoria girls tied for 10th with 22 points in the team standings. The Victoria boys tied for 15th with 10 points. The Sylvan-Lucas boys were 19th with 5 points. The Osborne girls won the team title with 60 points and Quinter took the boys team title with 77 points.

The State Track and Field Meet will be held Friday and Saturday, May 27-28 at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University. Classes 4A, 5A and 6A take the morning session on Friday with 1A, 2A and 3A going in the afternoon. Events continue throughout the day on Saturday.
