The Russell-Victoria Baseball team saw their losing streak extended to four games after losing a pair of contests to Larned on Tuesday afternoon at the Shaffer Sports Complex by scores of 14-4 and 8-3.

In the opener, Larned opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning off Mason Rohr (1-2) before the Broncos tied the score with a three-run rally in the bottom of the second on a double-steal, an RBI double by Will Schmeidler and an RBI single by Sam Thielen.  After Larned regained the lead with a single run in the top of the third, Russell-Victoria knotted up the score again later in the inning on an RBI triple by Max Evans.
The Indians went ahead for good in the fifth inning on a sacrifice bunt and then blew the game wide open with a nine-run explosion on the top of the seventh on their way to the 14-4 win.

The nightcap started out as a pitchers duel between Thielen (1-1) and Larned's Brady Hope.  After two and a half scoreless innings, Russell-Victoria broke on top 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning on Evans' RBI single and one of four Indian errors in the contest. Larned (13-5) cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the top of the fifth inning before the Broncos responded in the bottom half of the frame on a sacrifice fly by Wyatt Griffin, scoring Evans who hit his second triple of the doubleheader.

Larned came off the mat to tie the score in the top of the sixth and put the game away with a five-run rally in the top of the seventh to complete the sweep.

Russell-Victoria (8-9) will wrap up the regular season on Thursday, May 2 at the Shaffer Complex with a twinbill against long-time rival Southeast of Saline.  First pitch for Game 1 is set for 4 p.m. and both games will be broadcast on KRSL 95.9 FM and online at KRSL.com

SOFTBALL DROPS TWO AT HAVEN

Playing their second doubleheader in as many days, the Russell-Victoria Lady Bronco Softball team traveled to Haven on Tuesday and lost to the Lady Wildcats 12-2 and 15-0.  Game 1 was held up for about an hour by a weather delay caused in part by a land-spout tornado that was reported five miles from town.

Russell-Victoria (1-21) will return to Memorial Park for their Senior Day doubleheader against Southeast of Saline on Thursday, May 2.  First pitch for Game 1 is set for 4 p.m.
