Lady Broncos 1st, Broncos 3rd in Russell Invitational
The Russell High School Track and Field teams turned in a solid start to the 2024 season on Thursday at the season-opening Russell Invitational held at Shaffer Field.
The Lady Broncos placed first with 139 points out-pacing second place Hoxie by 15 points. The Hoxie Boys won the team title with 178 points while Russell finished third with 76 points, 14 points behind second place Trinity Catholic of Hutchinson.
Aubrey Birney led the way for the Lady Broncos with victories in the High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump while Kinsey Zorn recorded first place finishes in the 800 and 400-meter races. Jasmine Jefferson won the 300 and 100-meter hurdles races. Macy Patterson took first place in the discuss event.
Trey Zorn was the top performer for the Boys squad with victories in the 1,600 and 800-meter races.
The Track teams will hit the road for the first time this season on Friday, April 5 when they travel to the Lyons Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
