The Russell-Victoria Lady Broncos softball team made the most of their opportunity to shine in their final home games of the 2021 regular-season Friday at the Memorial Park Complex in Russell, especially the seniors.

The Lady Broncos took advantage of Ellinwood's struggles on the mound and in the field and collected big hits in the process on their way to a sweep of the Lady Eagles by scores of 25-0 and 19-1. Each game ended after two and a half innings due to the run rule.

In Game 1, Brooklyn Nowak (5-0) battled out a bases loaded nobody out jam in the top of the first by striking out the side. In the bottom half of the inning, the Russell-Victoria offense rewarded her with an 11-run inning in which the Lady Broncos nearly batted around twice. Russell-Victoria struck for 14 more runs in the second inning as Taylor Powers and Kendra Bay each hit home runs. Ellinwood had their leadoff hitter reach base in the top of the third inning but she was thrown out trying to steal third base and the Lady Broncos closed out the win.

In Game 2, Ellinwood took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Rylee Miller (4-0) before the Lady Broncos countered with another 11-run bottom of the first with Bay hitting her second home run of the day. Eight more runs crossed the plate in the second inning led by a three-run homer of the bat of Brooklynn Kuhn. Bay pitched the final two innings striking out five of the six hitters she faced.

In between games, Bay, Powers, Miller, Kuhn, Valerie Dome and manager Nicole Voorhees were honored in a Senior Recognition ceremony.

Russell-Victoria (14-2) is next in action on Friday, May 7 when they travel to Gypsum to face Southeast of Saline. First pitch for Game 1 is set for 4 PM.

Both games will be broadcast over the air on KRSL 95.9 FM and streamed online at krsl.com
