Personal Bests Fuel Bronco Track and Field at Victoria

The Russell High School Boys and Girls Track and Field teams competed in their final regular season meet of the season on Thursday in the Tony "Red" Pfeifer Invitational held at Victoria Junior-Senior High School.

On a day when Russell athletes racked up 17 personal records, the Lady Broncos finished third with 107 points while the RHS Boys placed fourth with 76 points.  TMP-Marian won the Girls title with 148 points, far out-pacing second place Ellis while on the Boys side, Plainville claimed first place well ahead of second place Trego Community High School.

Highlights for the Lady Broncos included Aubrey Birney placing second in the High Jump, fourth in the Long Jump and third in the Triple Jump.  Macy Patterson placed second in both the Shot Put and the Discus Throw. The Russell High School 4x800-meter relay team of Anna Thielen, Jaden Ney, Kelvie Reeves and Kinsey Zorn finished first in the event while Jasmine Jefferson was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.  Taylor Birney placed fourth in the 100-meter dash, Thielen was fourth in the 1,600-meter run, the RHS 4x100-meter relay team placed third in the event, Jefferson was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, Zorn was third in the 800-meter run, Patterson and Aubrey Birney teamed up with Ian Strobel and Aaron Cole from the Boys squad to finish third in the Co-Ed 4x100-meter relay.  Taylor Birney placed third in the 200-meter race, while Thielen, Ney, Reeves and Zorn combined to finish first in the 4x400-meter relay.

On the Boys side, Thomas Pummell won the High Jump, and placed sixth in the Triple Jump.  Walker Middleton was victorius in the 100-meter dash while Camden Backhus and Seth Schneider recorded finishes in the event's top eight.  Trey Zorn breezed to victory in both the 1,600-meter run and 800-meter run while the 4x100-meter relay team of Middleton, Brody Pfannenstiel, Schneider and Backhus combined to finish second in the event. Middleton won the 200-meter run while Schneider finished third and Backhus placed fifth.  

With the regular season complete, the Broncos and Lady Broncos will turn their sights to hosting the Mid-Continent League Track Meet at Shaffer Field on Thursday, May 9.  Events begin at 3 p.m.
