Russell K-18 Softball Team Opens State Tourney with Shutout

The second ever K-18 State Fastpitch Softball Tournament got underway on Friday in Lucas.

Russell had an impressive first round showing, shutting out Rooks County 5-0. Kendra Bay earned the victory in the circle.

Russell, now 13-3-1, advances to the semifinals and will play defending state champ Norton at 10 AM on Saturday. Norton rolled to a 20-3, three inning victory over Hays on Friday in the first round.

Also Friday, Osborne topped Ness City 10-4 and will play Ellis in Saturday's second semifinal at noon. Ellis beat Phillipsburg in Friday's final first round game.

The third place and state championship games will be played later in the day on Saturday.
